I consider them one of the most reputable supplement companies. I have never had any issues with the quality of their supplements and they have reasonable prices.

Recently, ON came out with Essential AmiNo Energy. It is supposed to be an essential amino acid supplement with some of the benefits of a pre workout supplement that can be taken pre/intra/post workout. (I’ll mainly be concentrating on taking it pre/intra for the rest of the article.)

The general precise of the supplement is good. However, the formulation is not. Make sure you read to the bottom where I have updated the AmiNo Energy review.

Why Take AmiNo Energy Or Other EAA Supplement Anyways?

There have been a few studies done on the benefits of supplementing with Essential Amino Acids (EAA). Since I’m lazy, Ill only reference one. In 2006, Bird and collegues in Metabolism – Clinical and Experimental found that supplementing with EAA and carbohydrates during resistance exercise resulted in suppressed cortisol release (catabolic stress hormone) and delayed muscle protein breakdown. The subjects used in the trial were “untrained”, but I believe similar results would be seen in individuals who trained regularly.

Back to Amino Energy Review

Looking at the ingredients label of Essential AmiNo Energy, you see that the first 3 ingredients are (meaning that they have the highest concentration per serving):

Taurine

Glatumine

Arginine

So what’s the problem with the above ingredients?

Both taurine and glutamine are non-essential amino acids. Arginine is added for its nitric oxide effects and if you take a pre-workout supplement, such as jack3d, no-xplode, ect., those already contain shit loads of arginine.

Following those above, then you get all the goodies we are looking for aka leucine, valine, and all the rest.

AmiNo Energy also contains beta-alanine and caffeine which your pre-workout already may (most likely caffeine) contain. So you end up double dosing.

Conclusion

I think you are better off getting a different amino acid supplement that only contains the aminos you want/need and also using a pre-workout supplement. I have heard good things about xtend for an alternative. It contains the aminos without all the added stuff Amino Energy does at an affordable price. Here’s another Amino Energy review at the Bodybuilding.com forums.

AmiNo Energy Review Update

So my roommate got himself a tub of Amino Energy and gave me some. The taste was fine and needed more water to mix than I would normally expect. With a good amount of water though it mixes completely.

I took it before a cardio session, and was pretty pleased with the energy boost it gave me. Nice amount of caffeine and other stimulants that gave me a good “buzz” for my cardio.

So even though it does not contain the amount of aminos that I would like to see in an amino supplement, I think it is a good choice for a pre cardio supplement. I normally drink a cup of coffee and take a scoop of whey before my cardio, but this gives me the same affect that coffee does.

I think I will stick to coffee just because it is more cost effective for me to do so, but I think Amino Energy has its place and would work great for pre cardio if you are needing an energy boost and aminos. Please leave your own AmiNo Energy review and thoughts below.

What do you think? You like the formula?

What Optimum Nutrition Says about their Casein Protein

Sometimes slower is better – especially when it comes to the rate of protein digestion. While rapid protein absorption is desirable immediately before or after exercise, delayed release is probably more beneficial throughout the remainder of the day.

Casein proteins are pH sensitive and gel in the acidic environment of the stomach. As a result, it can take more than twice as long for caseins to be broken-down into their amino acid sub-components than whey and other proteins. Because of their unique time-released qualities, caseins are aptly described as anti-catabolic or muscle-protecting proteins.

24 g Instantized Blend of Slow-Digesting Casein-Based Proteins

Rich in Highly Anti-Catabolic Micellar Casein

Over 9 g of BCAAs, Glutamine, and Glutamine Precursors per Scoop

Only 3-4 g of Carbs

My Review
I have been taking optimum’s casein protein for over two years now. This is definitely something you need if you are currently not taking a casein supplement. This is so important because of the rate of digestibility that casein offers. It is the perfect before bed shake giving your body hours of nutrients while you sleep. Amino acids will be constantly dripped into your bloodstream over the night. Meaning your body will not be forced to break down muscle tissue for energy over the long fasting period during the night. It is also ideal for times when you are not able to eat for several hours. I am a college student, so sometimes when I know I’ll be on campus for a few hours, I’ll take a couple scoops of casein. This will ensure I have the necessary amino acids I need to build new muscle and I won’t get hungry.

The quality of all Optimum Nutrition’s products are the best, including their casein protein. It mixes easily and comes in multiple flavors that are quite good. You can’t beat the price either. For the 2lb tub, it’s only $25. That usually lasts me 5-6 weeks.

Update!!! After doing some further research, I do not recommend zma anymore. You can read why here:

Does ZMA boost Testosterone Levels? The Truth About ZMA

A specific combination of Zinc Monomethionine Aspartate, Magnesium Aspartate, and Vitamin B6 can significantly increase anabolic hormone levels and muscle strength in well-trained athletes and bodybuilders. This Zinc Monomethionine Aspartate formula can also help to increase endurance, growth and a great night sleep.

Why You Need It

Contains the PATENTED Combination of Zinc, Magnesium, and Vitamin B6

Can Increase Testosterone Levels and Muscle Strength in Bodybuilders

Offers Even Better Results When Stacked with Creatine, Glutamine, or Other Strength & Recovery Products

I have used this product for over a year now. The one thing that it does extremely well is help me get a great night sleep. This stuff seriously will knock you out for a solid eight hours with no problem. And the best part is it is non habit forming and doesn’t make you groggy in the mornings. I can not tell exactly if this product increases free testosterone levels or not, but when I do take it, I experience strength gains in the gym.

They offer quality supplements at lower than average prices. I personally take 4 supplements manufactured by Optimum Nutrition. They have just released a brand new whey protein called Platinum Hydrowhey. I will provide you a honest Platinum Hydowhey review below.

Here’s what Optimum Nutrition says about there new Hydrowhey product:

It is the fastest digested, most pure, and most advanced protein Optimum Nutrition has ever created. This is easily the fastest digested protein on the market today because of the process called hydrolyzing. During this process, the protein molecules are broken down into the smallest particles possible. This ensures the quick digestion in your GI track. Included in the protein blend, they have added digestive enzymes, to help you digest all the protein, and micronized branch chain amino acids. Since it’s made entirely with hydrolyzed whey protein isolates, there’s no excess fat, cholesterol, or lactose to slow down digestion.

Nutrition Facts:

Made With advanced Hydrolyzed Whey Protein Isolates for Faster Delivery

30 Grams of Ultra-Pure Protein Per Serving

Nearly 9 Grams of Leucine, Isoleucine, and Valine (BCAAs)

No Lactose, Cholesterol, or Sugar

Contains Digestive Enzymes for Enhanced Utilization

Instantized to Mix Easily With a Spoon

Personal Platinum Hydrowhey Review:

Taste: Taste is great just like any other protein I have tried made by Optimum Nutrition. As of now they only have 2 flavors, chocolate and vanilla. Knowing OP, they will come out with new flavors sooner than later.

Mixing: Mixes very easily in both water and milk. All that is needed to mix completely is a spoon, no blender is needed like competitor products.

Price: You get what you pay for. If you are on a budget, I suggest you go with Optimum Nutrition’s %100 Whey, but if you want to maximize your gains and get the most out of your hard work in the gym, go with Hydrowhey. As of now a 1.75 tub goes for $29.99 and 3.5 lbs for 54.99 at Bodybuilding.com.

Remember you never have to pay full price again for bodybuilding supplements! You can get Bodybuilding.com Coupons right here and save huge amounts of $$$ on all your orders.
