Your post workout meal is one of the most important meals of the day. You body is starving for nutrients after being beat up in the gym. You muscles were broken down and you need to jump start the muscle building process. You can do this easily in your post workout meal. This meal should consist of two things: whey protein and a simple carb.

In this article I will be talking only about the simple carbs. A simple carb in one which has I high glycemic index. This means that your body digests these carbs quickly and the nutrients can be used immediately. These simple carbs spike your insulin levels. Increased insulin levels drive nutrients into you broken down muscles. So by consuming both protein and a simple carb post workout, you are driving amino acids into your muscles starting the process of protein synthesis (building new muscle tissue).

Many carbs can be taken post workout.
Best: Dextrose-A simple sugar derived from corn. Easily mixes in your protein shake
Good: White Bread Or Bagel
Ok: Fruit-Although made of simple sugars, fruit contains  frutose. Thesesugars  take a little longer to be broken down in your stomach.

New Option: Wazy Maize-You can read all about this at Bodybuilding.com. I have used this with great results.
